E-Learning for Students

E-Learning is just learning with the use of technology.  You probably do it for informal learning every day, when you use a computer, software, the web, your mobile. Now, lecturers use technology in their teaching, whether it’s using Blackboard for class discussions and assessments, making use of the web in lectures or podcasting versions of their lectures.

We know the technology is useful, but sometimes students (as well as staff) need help using it, and students may also want support in how to become effective e-learners themselves.  Some of that support will be provided by your lecturers, but Queen Mary’s E-Learning Unit is also here to help you.

What Support is available?

Support for Blackboard, the Virtual Learning Environment at QM

Most modules now use Blackboard for course content, communications and assessments.

We run induction sessions in using Blackboard as a student, scheduled workshops and drop-in sessions throughout the year.

We also provide front line web, email and online helpdesk support.

Our Student Workshops on E-Learning

We run scheduled workshops on these sorts of topics:

  • Accessing Journals/Books/Articles Online
  • Cloud Computing and Student Learning
  • Managing your Files and Learning Resources Online
  • Online Communications for Learning: Skype, Facebook and other social media

We also have online resources about other aspects of e-learning, including advice about how to avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism.
