Teaching Room Technologies
E-Learning isn’t just web-based learning – it also includes the use of technology for live, face-to-face teaching.
The lecture theatres and teaching rooms at QM are undergoing substantial refurbishment, and in most spaces you can now use a range of technologies to enhance your teaching. Additionally, there are other teaching room technologies you may have access too (or which we can provide) which you can also use.
We can help you with:
- Technologies available in many teaching rooms at QM
- Tools that you can bring in to teaching rooms and use there
Technologies in QM Teaching Rooms
We’ve been involved in the Teaching Room Refurbishment Project which has invested heavily in ensuring that students are taught in well-equipped modern spaces.
Rooms now commonly feature teaching ‘kiosks’ from which you can use a web-enabled computer connected to the ‘Teaching Service’ (from where you can access e.g. discipline-specific software), DVD drive, document camera. Some rooms are also enabled for lecture capture.
For details about what technologies are available in which spaces, see this page by Teaching Room Facilities.
Other Teaching Room Technologies
We maintain a watching brief on other useful tools, such as Smart Boards, tablet PCs, mini video cameras and personal response systems. We will build information about these tools on these pages over the course of the year, and we also post articles about their use on this site. Below is a selection of articles we’ve written about using these and similar teaching room technologies.
We can give you advice and demonstrations about using technologies available during a teaching session, such as audience
response systems, tablets, interactive whiteboards, visualisers and other kit now available in QM’s lecture rooms.
Currently, we’ve been working with several Schools on the use of ‘clickers’ or personal response systems. If you would like to know more about these, please get in touch.
We can also loan you a set of 80 PRS handsets, a tablet PC, Flip video cameras, or a Mimeo system for on-the-go Smartboard functionality. Please get in touch if you’re interested in the above or in exploring your own use of teaching room tech.
