Developing Students as E-learners
E-Learning is just learning with the use of technology. You probably do it for informal learning every day, when you use a computer, software, the web, your mobile.
Now, lecturers use technology in their teaching, whether it’s using Blackboard for class discussions and assessments, making use of the web in lectures or podcasting versions of their lectures.
We know the technology is useful, but sometimes students (as well as staff) need help using it, and students may also want support in how to become effective e-learners themselves. Some of that support will be provided by your lecturers, but Queen Mary’s E-Learning Unit is also here to help.
For Students
We have support pages with information about how to use Blackboard and other technical tools for learning. We also run drop-in sessions for learning support in these tools, and scheduled inductions.
For Postgraduate Students
We host sessions in how to use Endnote, the referencing software. See our course booking system to book a place on these.
For staff
If you notice that your students are struggling with learning technologies, or would like assistance in inducting them to use Blackboard, please get in touch.
E-Learning Student Support Adviser
Most of our support for students is run by our E-Learning Student Support Officer, Mr Manoj Singh. Manoj is keen to hear from any students with ideas about how they like to learn with technology, and queries about e-learning subjects great or small. (Blackboard queries, though, go to the Web Helpdesk.)
